John McLaughlin is a junior in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences majoring in Sociology and International Studies. He grew up just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In college he has worked for Strong City Baltimore, a local nonprofit, and the City of Philadelphia's Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service on community development and outreach work. That work has entailed knocking on doors around Baltimore's Greenmount Avenue, coordinating with community associations and city departments, helping manage the ServePhilly Americorps VISTA program, and interviewing public benefits recipients in the Kensington Philadelphia neighborhood. He returned a few months ago from a Fall 2016 study abroad program in Bolivia focused on concepts of development and indigenous communities where he learned Spanish and wrote a children's book in Spanish and English on masculinity and healthy relationships. One of Charmify's co-founders, John is excited to see the project's rapid growth and work closely with its partners and communities in East Baltimore.
